When this Old School House was built, it would have been fitted with hand-crafted timber windows, shaped to sit perfectly within the natural curves of the stone. Timber windows add a certain charm to a building, but the downside is that they do need to be carefully maintained with regular cleaning and painting to ensure they continue to look good and perform well. When JB Installations were asked to replace the timber windows in this property in Cheshire with uPVC windows, they were keen to ensure the overall aesthetics of the building retained the original charming appeal. KAT, a sister company of Universal Arches, manufactured the square shaped windows, complete with georgian bars. Having installed KAT UK’s Kraftsman uPVC windows on many occasions, they knew straight away that these would be the ideal fit in this home. Kraftsman flush casement windows are manufactured with a mechanically jointed sash and frame to closely resemble timber windows and the Anthracite Grey finish chosen has a beautiful woodgrain effect.

Universal Arches are specialists in bending uPVC frames and have invested in high performance machinery to ensure that shaped frames are a perfect fit and can manufacture a wide range of unusual shaped window frames such as those required for this unique Old School. Hardwood templates were made, ensuring every nook and cranny within the stone building was considered and from these templates, Universal Arches used their hi-tech CAD drawings to provide the fabricators with templates to work with. The project included manufacturing a uPVC arched frame and a basket topped gothic frame, where the frame starts with a small curve and forms a peak at the head of the frame. On this occasion, the four leaf clover shape was glazed directly into the stone work, although this is a shape which Universal Arches is familiar with manufacturing as can be seen below.
