About the Charity

Patients are at the heart of everything

From accidental injuries to severe medical emergencies, our crew delivers specialist and enhanced pre-hospital care to the most critically ill and injured, and transport patients to the most appropriate hospital to achieve the best outcomes for them. Medical interventions that we provide at the scene of an incident include Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI), administering blood transfusions, analgesia, and many other lifesaving interventions.
We receive no government or NHS funding and must raise over £9.5 million to keep us operational. It’s only thanks to the generosity of people like you that we can continue flying to save lives.

1999

The North West Air Ambulance Charity was founded, operating just five days per week.

2020 Onwards

In April, we joined forces with the North West Ambulance Service and launched an inter-hospital transfer service in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Using a land ambulance, kitted with specialist equipment, the service saw the transportation of Covid-19 patients from one hospital to another, to help prevent any one hospital becoming overwhelmed – resulting in other frontline ambulances being able to remain available for responding to patients, including those dialling 999.

In May, we celebrated 21 years of our lifesaving service.

In June, the BBC’s BAFTA winning ‘Ambulance’ returned with a brand new series, featuring the North West Air Ambulance Charity crew saving lives alongside North West Ambulance Service’s Merseyside crew
