Intricate wooden shaped window replaced with modern uPVC
Wooden windows in a stone property add a feeling of nostalgia to your home, with their fabulous shaped frames and authenticity. With regular maintenance, wooden windows will last 20 – 30 years. However, for many homeowners the thought of cleaning, sanding and painting the window frames throughout their homes on a regular basis isn’t ideal. Whilst old wooden windows are charming, they do not usually offer the same levels of security as a modern uPVC window.
uPVC Windows with a Swept Head
When the owners of this home decided it was time to replace their windows, with their designer curves following the shape of the stone surround, they started looking at window companies to see who could closely replicate this design in modern uPVC. In addition to the outer frame having a fabulous swept head, there were four individual sashes which each feature a shaped head, which the homeowners were keen to replicate. Every project which Universal Arches manufactures consists of made-to-measure frames in one-off designs. Using in-house CAD drawings for complete accuracy, the radius of the swept head and each of the four sashes was calculated and the bending machine was configured accordingly. The original shaped sashes to the left and right of the window had been outward opening windows, something the home-owners also wished to maintain, to allow plenty of fresh air into their room.
In older stone buildings, the materials used would allow the walls to breathe, which in turn allowed for fantastic air flow within the home. Having draughty timber windows would also allow a small amount of air to circulate and help prevent condensation forming. It is important to have a good ventilation system in the workplace or at home, such as having an opening window to allow the air to flow. Modern uPVC windows can be supplied with a night vent option, which means the windows can be open slightly, allowing air flow within the room, whilst keeping your home secure. In newer homes, with excellent damp proofing and insulation, consideration should be given to allowing air to flow freely, to minimise the cause of condensation. Circulating the air in your room by opening a window can help prevent condensation.
Hand-crafted uPVC shaped windows offer many benefits
uPVC shaped windows are easy to maintain, waterproof, durable, secure and stylish and cost less than hand-crafted timber windows.
To ensure the double glazed unit fitted within the uPVC shaped window sash perfectly, Universal Arches used state-of-the art CAD drawings to draw a template.
